Fahrenheit 451 Project
"In this project we read and discussed the book "Fahrenheit 451",
made an art piece in response to the book, and wrote either a historical/literary analysis or a fiction piece based off of the book. |
My art piece is showing Montag standing in fire. I didn’t like all the other kids drawing of him because to me they looked like modern fire men, so I did my drawing so I could draw my own idea of Montag. I used blending stumps and a pencil and some other colored pencils to make my drawings. I first started with a rough draft of Montag standing In the middle of a fire, then after I purchased some drawing tools I started my 2nd draft. After I finished that I started my final draft. However it didn’t start off good or how I wanted it to be so I trashed it and started over but soon enough I finished all 3 drafts.

Mask Project
This "Identity" mask project incorporated mask making with Plaster of Paris and a well written essay diving deep into the idea of socialization.
Essay
Socialization
“You can’t be on movies, boys are on movies”
“Don’t girls have long hair”
“I can run faster, I'm a boy”
Boys have been the controlling sex up until the 1970’s and all though women today have equal rights, the American female living is only textbook equal and isn’t actually balanced or fair. Being a male definitely has its corrupt perks but it also has latent negative effects. Ever since I can remember people have told me things about what I should become, being a boy and how I should act, being a male. Socialization of a male generally has taught me men are stronger, braver, and dominant over the female.
Once elementary school started I have heard how I should play sports, or how I was good at something physical. I wasn't ever interested enough so I didn’t take it to heart, but I still appreciated the compliments. I'm not annoyed by being asked stuff like that but I feel if I was a female I wouldn’t have been encouraged to play sports as much growing up. Backing up my claims Patheos.com quotes a call a foot ball coach recived, “If she played again, her team would be forced to forfeit. She had been ruled ineligible to play by the Indianapolis [Catholic Youth Organization], simply because of her gender.” This shows how young and even old catholic woman are socialized to think less of themselves and more of males and a lot of young girls are catholic so they hear this all the time. Even if the female football player was good she would have to question why she wouldn't be able to play. Most likely to conclude that boys are better than girls because there is no other actual reason she wouldn't be able to play.
Throughout history i've seen many examples of males being superior. In ancient Athens, Greece woman were controlled by their fathers until they were teens when they were forced to marry a thirty year old man. There only school learning they did was simple reading and simple history. Other than that they learned household tasks like cleaning and cooking and basically how to be a stay at home mom. No female had any real occupation and could only leave their house with a male escort unless during religious celebrations. Anglefire.com elaborates on the ancient living style “Athenian women could not own property in their own right. If they were married, complete control went to their husband. If they divorced, control and rights over any property went back to their father or nearest male relative. Women had very few rights, let alone legal rights.” This historical right demonstrates that throughout history women have been oppressed and subjugated by the male gender. This put our mind set back hundreds of years and only ninety five years ago woman got the right to vote and women today are still treated with job and education inequality.
A sub culture is a small group consisting in a large community that has some different norms but generally sticks to the flow of the culture. A counter culture is the same thing however they go against the system and tend to always lead to destruction, or believe everything is destined for destruction. I think the male minority is a counter culture because all you have to do is look around, we have always had war, have war today, and will always have war. No matter how hard we try to make trusses we will always break out in war just because it’s an easy way out of modern conflicts. Listverse.com gives its own list of the top ten revolutions in history; seven of these ten revolutions were started between and led by a man or two. And the last three were started by fighting which back in the day the armies were probably all men. This is very possibly coincidence but most revolts throughout history were led by men. Some might argue that woman might not have gotten all the chances to revolt like men did but I believe the average man has an internal passion to revolt or go against a set of rules/norms. Although we have seen a few very large protests lead by woman in the past it was more for their rights. Where men revolt for the purpose to get anything we want.
